atp: top feats of 2007 - 11 Dec 2007
ATPtennis.com has posted their list of the most remarkable feats of 2007. Andy features once in the top 10 and gets another honourable mention, the first for his consecutive tiebreaks won record (18) in the first half of the season, and the second for being undefeated in Davis Cup. The article is here if you would like to read the whole thing but I am posting the Andy parts below.
10) Roddick Establishes Tie-Break Mark -- Andy Roddick went nearly half the season without losing a tie-break, setting a record of 18 consecutive tie-breaks won between February (Memphis) and July (Wimbledon). The streak ended painfully in the Wimbledon quarterfinals when Roddick blew a two-sets lead to lose to Richard Gasquet 4-6, 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(3), 8-6. The American finished with a personal-best 35-12 mark (.745) in tie-breaks for the season.
* Unbeaten Roddick Leads U.S. to Davis Cup Title -- Andy Roddick posted a 6-0 Davis Cup record in leading the U.S. to its first Davis Cup title in 12 years as the Americans defeated Russia 4-1 in the final. Pete Sampras was the last American to post an unblemished record (6-0) and lead the U.S. to the title in 1995.
article/profile (tennis week) - 06 Dec 2007
There is a nice profile of Andy over at TennisWeek and I thought I'd post the link here:

davis cup, and the winner is... - 03 Dec 2007
On Saturday, Mike and Bob Bryan clinched the tie for the USA beating Davydenko and Andreev. It meant that the USA went 3-0 up and so won the tie, and the Davis Cup for 2007. It was obvious how much it meant for Andy, after celebrating with the team we went to hug his parents and family and there were tears in his eyes.
The ceremony was held on Sunday and apart from being incredibly hungover or possibly still drunk, Andy proudly held onto his trophy and the Davis Cup. It was an incredible experience.
Congratulations to Andy and the rest of team USA!
davis cup, almost there! - 01 Dec 2007
Andy did not deliever his best performance in his career last night, but he permormed well enough to beat Tursunov comfortably, 6-4 6-4 6-2.
He was visibly nervous, during the opening ceremony he started clapping before it was over, and not hitting a first serve in during the first game was another hint. However, he pulled himself together and only faced one break point in the match, during a game he served three double faults.
On match point Andy was given a standing ovation by the crowd and he was overcome with emotion. It was all very sweet.
James Blake then went on to beat Youzhny in a four set thrilller, which means the USA are up 2-0 already!
davis cup, and so it begins... - 29 Nov 2007
At the Performing Arts Center in Portland, Oregon, on a cold, wet day, the Davis Cup final draw was performed. It was a nice ceremony with some long speeches and there were few surprises when the team players were named. Currently, the order of play is this:
Andy Roddick vs Dmitry Tursunov
James Blake vs Mikhail Youzhny
Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan vs Igor Andreev/Nikolay Davydenko
Andy Roddick vs Mikhail Youzhny
James Blake vs Dmitry Tursunov
After the draw ceremony there were two press conferences, the first done by the Russian team where not much happenned, and the second by the US team. Andy was in great form with some witty and self-deprecating answers, like always.
So, basically the only thing I have to say is go Andy and the rest of team USA!
It's the Final Countdown... - 27 Nov 2007
Davis Cup week is FINALLY here! The final team has been named - unchanged - and the draw ceremony will take place on Thursday at 11am in Portland, OR. The Russian team of Mikhail Youzhny, Dmitry Tursunov, Nikolay Davydenko and Igor Andreev is of no surprise either.
Andy's most likely first match will be against Dmitry Tursunov who beat Andy 17-15 in the fifth set in Davis Cup in Moscow last September. Andy will no doubt want revenge, however, the Russian captain is known for his surprising team tactics so we will have to wait and see.
Tomorrow I head down to Portland and will hopefully have some Andy sightings. :)
A Shanghai Update - 15 Nov 2007
Apologies for not updating but I am on vacation.
Andy became the first player to qualify for the semi-finals in Shanghai after a win over Nikolay Davdenko followed by one over Fernando Gonzalez, putting him at the top of his group.
Tomorrow he plays Roger Federer. If Federer wins him and Andy will move onto the semis, if Andy loses then him and Gonzalez do. To put it simply, anyway.
lyon: the draw - 20 Oct 2007
So, Andy is FINALLY back playing some tennis! He pulled out of Madrid last week with an "injury" (and I use that word in place of any real excuse) but as far as we're aware, he is definitely playing in Lyon.
His first round match is against Fabrice Santoro, who Andy beat in the semis in 2005 in the same tournament. Andy has never been broken at the tournament which he won in 2005, and has never lost a match there. Let's hope that streak can continue. :)
a few small updates :) - 02 Oct 2007
Andy's quotes and results pages have been updated with his latest results and some quotes from this years press conferences and interviews. Though not as many as I would like. This means the random quote at the bottom of each page has been updated as well. His tv and movie appearences has been updated too.
So far, Andy's schedule for the year looks like this: Madrid, Lyon, Paris, probably the Masters Cup and then the Davis Cup final. However, between now and Madrid Andy is fitting in no less than four charity events, the last the night before Madrid is meant to start so the likelyhood of him showing up is doubtful. Plus, he's never done well at that tournament and will definitely not want to injure himself before the Davis Cup final.
Portland, Oregon, confirmed as Davis Cup final venue - 26 Sep 2007
The venue for the Davis Cup final was confirmed as the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon today. It is the third time that a Davis Cup tie has been played there, the last time in 1984. It seats 12,000 people and the tickets go on sale Monday 15th October. I plan to be there though it's 6,000 miles away. :) Hopefully Andy can lead the US to their first trophy in 15 years.
Andy also pulled out of Bangkok today citing a foot injury he picked up in practise. Hopefully he'll have a couple of weeks of rest and exhibition before he heads back to Europe and plays the rest of the indoor season.
way to go andy, way to go! - 24 Sep 2007
The US finally broke the curse of the Scandinavium, beaten Sweden 4-1. :) In two thrilling matches, Andy won both his Davis Cup rubbers, the first 7-6 7-6 6-4 against Joachim Johansson and the second 6-2 7-6 6-3 against Jonas Bjorkman, putting the US into the final.
One crucial thing is that this time it's at home. :) The word on the street has it that the fina will be in Portland, OR, though Winston-Salem, NC is still in the running too. Wherever it is, Andy will be ready to kick some ass, I'm sure.
us open: a predicted result - 08 Sep 2007
On Wednesday night, Andy lost to Roger Federer in the quarter-finals 7-6 7-6 6-2. Predictable, but still sad.
Though it was another straight sets loss, I think it was actually a lot closer than last year's final. Andy was a point away from serving for the second set and both tiebreaks were incredibly close and could have gone either way. Unfortunately, he could not keep it up for three sets and though it was not a walkover in the third, Andy knew he was defeated. Though he loses a lot of points, he'll still be ranked the after the Open and has nothing to defend for the rest of the year.
Next up for Andy is Davis Cup in Sweden, which I will be attending. (Supporting Andy, obviously). After that he heads to Thailand and Tokyo.
us open: quarter-finals, take six - 04 Sep 2007
Andy won by default against Berdych after the Czech retired when he was 7-6 2-0 down. After an early break, Andy started playing tentatively (again) and eventually found himself a break down and Berdych serving for the set. However, Andy broke him to love and won the tiebreak. It was clear Berdych was struggling throughout the match and was no surprise when he called it a day.
Next up for Andy is someone he is 1-13 against, Roger Federer. I think everyone knows this story, so good luck Andy, and don't get too thrashed.
us open: and we're into round four! - 02 Sep 2007
After a slow start, Andy scored a win against Acasuso with a retirement, 4-6 6-1 6-2 Ret. Yesterday he went on to play Thomas Johansson from Sweden, which Andy won 6-3 6-2 6-0. It was one of the best matches I have seen from him in a while, everything came together nicely especially in the second and third sets of the match. It was definitely a delight to watch.
Next up is Tomas Berdych, seeded 9th. Andy has a 1-1 head to head record against him, strangely his one win came on clay in Davis Cup, and the loss came in Madrid last year.
There's a nice photo gallery of andy at SI.com, you can view it here.
us open: round two - 30 Aug 2007
Andy plays Acasuso third on Ashe court this afternoon. Andy has a 3-1 record against him, falling to him at the French Open two years ago after being two sets up.
Hopefully he won't lose on his birthday. Again.
And happy birthday Andy! Don't eat too much cake.
the us open, and beyond - 27 Aug 2007
*shame*
So, after a win in Washington, a QF in Montreal, and a disappointing third round loss in Cincinnati, Andy was ranked 5th going into the US Open - and ended up with a possible QF match against Roger Federer, who is is 1-13 lifetime against.
Andy faces fellow American, Justin Gimblestob, in the first round. He recently beat Gimblestob in the first round at Wimbledon, which is one of the weirdest things ever as there is a very small chance of that happenning. He is not playing tonight, but will probably be on Tuesday's schedule.
Over the last couple of weeks I've been working on the gallery and it's almost ready, which is why there haven't been any site updates (along with vacation in Montreal). I do have a few Andy pictures from Montreal and other tournaments which I will also put up in the gallery.
washington dc, 3rd round - 02 Aug 2007
Andy made it into the third round of Washington on Tuesday with a 6-4 6-2 win. Tonight he plays Radek Stepanek, who Andy has a 2-0 head to head with, though they have only played on grass.
Unfortunately work and life has gotten in the way of me updating here. Next week I will be in Montreal so I will not have time to update the site, however, I will add my pictures and match reports if I get to see Andy when I get home.
roadtrip - indianapolis! - 23 Jul 2007
Andy is starting off his US summer season by playing Indianapolis. He is the number one seed there and in his first round match he plays Alex Kuznetsov.
Not only is Andy playing singles in Indianapolis, he is attempting to defend his doubles title there by teaming with ex-roommate and good friend Mardy Fish. They play tonight at 7pm local time.
Good luck Andy and Mardy!
wimbledon, the quarter-finals - 08 Jul 2007
Late on Friday evening, just as beginning the light ws about to fade at Wimbledon, Andy lost his quarter-final against Richard Gasquet after being two sets and a break up in the match. He led 6-4 6-4 4-2 when Gasquet broke back and got int the match and after that, he was unstoppable. It was clear that Andy was heartbroken after the match, not only from his answers in the press conference but just from the way he walked off court.
If you really want to watch Andy's interview after the match, you can do so here but I warn you, it's not pretty. At all.
Next up for Andy is Indianapolis in two weeks time.
wimbledon, and onto the quarters! - 04 Jul 2007
Yesterday afternoon, Andy played on a mostly sunny Centre Court to finish off his match with Paul-Henri Mathieu. Being up 6-2 6-5 with a break of serve when he walked on court, he quickly finished off the second set but then struggled at the beginning of the third. Though Mathieu served for the set, Andy broke him to love, and after being down 5-0 in the tiebreak, Andy went on to win the match in straight sets, 6-2 7-5 7-6 (6).
It increases his consecutive tiebreak record to 18, and as long as he keeps winning the tiebreaks, he'll continue to set a new record. :)
Today Andy plays Richard Gasquet and they are second on Court 1. He has a 2-0 record against Gasquet, and both times they have played on a harcourt. He has yet to face a breakpoint against Gasquet. Good luck Andy! If his match is completed today it's likely that he will play his semi-final tomorrow, and the final Sunday after a day of rest.
wimbledon, a fourth round update! - 02 Jul 2007
Andy did not get to play his fourth round against Paul-Henri Mathieu today due to heavy rain and frequent showers. However, he will probably be on Centre Court tomorrow to play.
Though, this is Wimbledon and they will probably decide that once again, the women's matches are more important than the men's.
wimbledon, through to round four! - 30 Jun 2007
With a 6-3 6-4 7-6 (2) win over Verdasco, Andy came from a break down in the third set to beat Verdasco over fast fading light at the All England Club. This also means he will be gaining points from his result last year, which is always a bonus!
In the fourth round, Andy will play Paul-Henri Mathieu on Monday for a spot in the quarter-finals. However, Andy has a tough task ahead of him. He has a 0-1 record against the Frenchman, having lost to him in Montreal two years ago.
wimbledon: into round three! - 27 Jun 2007
As I've been at Wimbledon for the last couple of days, I haven't updated with Andy's results.
On Monday, Andy played his first round match against fellow American Justin Gimblestob, which he won 6-1 7-5 7-6. In his post match interview he joked that before the match they had made a bet to how many dives they could make during the match, and seemed generally happy with the result and said his level of play got better towards the end of the match.
Today Andy played Danai Udomchoke from Thailand and won 6-3 6-4 7-6. Though he did get the win in the end, his play was patchy though again, it got better towards the end of the match, finally finding his forehand.
On Friday, Andy will play Fernando Verdasco from Spain. They have played eight times and Andy leads the head to head 6-2 though they have never played on grass.
the wimbledon draw - 22 Jun 2007
The Wimbledon draw was released earlier today, and Andy is in he top half of the draw, seeded to meet Roger Federer in the semi-finals, and Murray in the quarter-finals if the seeding goes to plan. In the last four years, they are the only two players to beat Andy at Wimbledon, and the only current players on tour who have done.
His first round opponent is Justin Gimblestob, who recently tipped Andy to do well at Wimbledon. Here's hoping that his tip pays off. If you'd like to see the rest of the draw, please click here.
Andy will be playing on the first Monday, though the time and court is as yet, unknown.
a few articles :) - 21 Jun 2007
Since Andy won his fourth title at Queen's Club, there have been several interesting articles written about him, the state of his game, and his chances at Wimbledon. These links are just the best of the bunch.
Andy's Reappearing Act talks (mostly) about Andy's personality and what it brings to the game of tennis.
Roddick, not Nadal, is Federer's Wimbledon shadow - some nice comments from a tennis pro and Andy himself.
Finally, a real site update! - 18 Jun 2007
Over the weekend I have been adding little bits and pieces to the site. The videos page has Andy's introduction and interview on the British chat show, Late Night With Jonathan Ross, and the quotes page has also been updated with several of Andy's more recent quotes. I have several more video clips to upload along with an updated biography over the next few days.
king of queens once more! - 17 Jun 2007
After 2 hours and 12 minutes, Andy was crowned king of Queens' once again, with a record equalling fourth tournament win over Nicolas Mahut. The match was incredibly tense, Andy eventually prevailing 4-6 7-6 (7) 7-6 (2).
It is his first title this year, and hopefully it will lead to several more. The win also means he has won at least one title for the last seven years.
queens, back into the finals! - 16 Jun 2007
Some signs of good form shoed today against Tursunov, resulting in a 6-4 7-5 win for Andy. Not only does he gain points for reaching the finals, he has a chance to equal the record four trophies that have been won at Queens (McEnroe, Becker, Hewitt). Tomorrow he will play Nicolas Mahut, who Andy has a 1-0 head to head against.
queens, semi-finals - 16 Jun 2007
As I've been at Queens' for the last few days, I haven't had time to update.
Andy defeated Bogdanovic on Wednesday and Cilic on Friday to move into the semi-finals, where he will be playing Dmitry Tursunov. He has a 1-1 head to head record with Tursunov, with Tursunov winning the last match in the Davis Cup last year. Hopefully Andy will get some revenge, though he'll definitely have to improve his play.
queens, round 2 - 12 Jun 2007
Andy won his first match at Queens today, with a 6-4 6-4 win over Radek Stepanek. He didn't face a break point in the entire match.
On Thursday Andy will play one of two British wildcards. Although the crowd will be against him, hopefully it won't affect his performance.
A New Start - 10 Jun 2007
So, this site is finally back in full... except the gallery. I still haven't sorted that out. Anyway, I think almost every single page has been updated, so have a look around! I will definitely get the gallery done soon.
Also, the site has a new layout, featuring Andy from this year's Australian Open. Enjoy!
Losses like this just inspire me more. I just want to keep getting better and better, and I feel like I'm on the right track.
This site is completely fan made and is non-profit. I do not know Andy Roddick, nor do I have any contact with him, and I am definitely not Andy! If I was, I'd be better at tennis than I am. And also male. Any mail sent to me for Andy will be trashed. All graphics and coding belong to Holly unless otherwise specified. Please do not steal.
